By my side

From adolescence to manhood
You were there by my side
You were there to catch me when I fell,
And held me when I cried
You were there during my moments of success
And those of failure

When another would have beaten me
You merely lectured me and gave me closure
Understanding and intelligent
You always knew what to do
Without you I wouldn't have a clue

I beg your forgiveness for the times I let you down
And thank you for being there when nobody else would have shown

Not only were you there by my side
But you've given me what many will never have
A loving father and a lifetime of memories
That which Bill Gates and Rockafella couldn't even afford.
